If I worked for a venue or church I'd probably be thinking more in terms of scenes like you are doing.PLEASE READ THIS SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT ("AGREEMENT") CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THIS SOFTWARE.
We send out every rental console with factory defaults unless the customer requests otherwise. I work at a company that does some shows and a lot of dry rentals, so keeping presets is typically not done. Or we might rent a digital mixer and have the customer send a file ahead of time or else request that we save the show file so they can use it for a future rental. So I'll try to get the file early and do any tweaks I think might help me out. A couple Sundays from now I'll be mixing a contemporary Christian service on an M7CL, and the church will already have a file with the channels assigned to start with. Main reason I'll use multiple files in SM is when dealing with different shows/customers. Some features (user keys in particular) are only available on the mixer itself.
I can do some things faster on the mixer and some things faster in Studio Manager. It's a tossup which is "quicker" on setting things up.
